Guest Bathroom - Anthropologie Style

Another room is pretty much complete other than some little knick knacks here and there!

But before any of the decorating could take place, there were several things that needed to occur:
  • Counter tops were replaced with granite
  • Cabinets were painted white
  • Brushed bronze faucet and new sink installed
  • Yellowish paint replaced with khaki color
  • Old ugly square mirror replaced with beautiful brushed bronze oval mirror
  • Ugly gold lights replaced with beautiful brushed bronze light
  • Horrific sliding gold shower doors taken out. I removed these bad boys myself, but I haven’t gotten around to taken out the frame yet. I figure as long as I can cover it up with a pretty shower curtain, I can buy myself a little bit more time.

Since having completed all the cosmetic stuff, I have been having loads of fun picking up little pieces of bathroom décor here and there to complete my anthropologie inspired look.

The first piece that I picked up was this beautiful shower curtain. I knew I wanted something with lots of colors so that I could pull in all different textures/colors into this room.

Next, I knew that I wanted to pull the green and blue colors out of the shower curtain and incorporate them in the bathroom. ( ie. Towels, round bath mat and hand towels) You can slightly see the green ones in the picture above.

Once I officially decided on my main color palette then I got to work on all the little details. One of my favorite things that I did was choose three different bathroom knobs and drilled them into the cabinets.(one is blue/white, one is green white polka dot, and the other one is a light red) I think this helps add a little punch of fun to this room. I also got some items for the counter and back of the toilet, as well as hung one of my favorite bird pictures. (Wanna know a random fact: I have some sort of bird in every room in my house!)

I definitely have several more things that I need to purchase for this room.
  • If you look at the first picture, on the back wall, above the shower curtain; I’m going to stencil “Relax, Refresh, Renew” in big scripted letters.
  • I need to find something else for the back of the toilet
  • I need something above the towel rack. I also might switch the bird picture to above the towel rack. I haven’t officially decided yet.

I think that covers everything. I know the bathroom isn't too exciting but I do love the feeling of having completed another room!

Guest Room Yellow/White Stripes

I have finally completed decorating our guest bedroom and I couldn't be any more excited with the way it turned out. (I’m squealing with excitement over here!!!)

I knew from the moment that we moved into the house,  my plan was to paint horizontal white stripes in the guest room. The only thing that I wasn’t aware of was how much of a pain in the ASS it was going to be to get said stripes done!

Walls measured and taped off. This process took 2 hrs. per wall. Total of 4 walls.

The small pieces of tape in between each line indicate what color that particular line should be. This helped me so I wouldn't get confused and mess up!

All the walls are taped off!

Now the paint goes on! In order for the paint to not run through the tape, you have paint a line and then rip of that piece of tape. It took me a total of 6 hours to paint the room.

Paint all done! I love the way my stripes turned out!

Curtains are up!

Headboard is up!

 ..and my pictures are hung!

The only thing left to do now is the minor decorations. So glad another room is done!

Past 90 Days

I know it's been almost 3 months since I've last blogged and there are a million individual post I could write, but I wont. Instead, here are a few tidbits of whats occurred over the past 90 days.

We both FINALLY got new glasses. I don't think either of us have had new glasses since college!

Christmas Eve we had M's family over to our house. M got one of his grandfathers rifles that he has been wanting for a very long time. Such a special moment for him.

Christmas day we spent with my family at my parents house. Lots of time was spent with these precious little kiddos that were in town.

New Years Eve. M worked and I was laid up in bed sick. Nothing special for us this year!

We took my parents to the Mavs game. ha ha - M being a goof.

I painted a rug. Love how the Chevron print turned out.

I had some of my girlfriends over for a blind wine tasting party. Can't wait to have another one in the Spring, were we sample all white wines.

I finally hung some curtains in our breakfast nook. House decorations are finally in progress now that all the holidays are over with! (..and the chandelier has been centered over the table now!)

Finally decorated the foyer...

Had our first Super Bowl party at the house with some friends...

Okay.... I think that sums everything up. Nothing too excited has been happening over here in the Holmes Home.

Now back to your regular scheduled programming...

The New J-O-B

I finally finished my first two weeks at the new J-O-B, and what a whirlwind it has been. I spent my first couple days on the sales side seeing how things work, (and kind of seeing what all I will be doing) then I moved over to the production/floral/design side to see how the business works from that side. My first couple days in production I helped prepare for an event and then had to strike the event. (Striking an event means going back to the venue once the event is over and cleaning up) The particular event that I had to strike was a wedding so by the time we finished cleaning up and I finally made it home it was close to 3am. Thank goodness I will never have to do that again as a sales person, but I definitely have so much more respect for our production team after having done it once! The next couple of days I spent with our floral team dropping off deliveries and designing some arrrangements before I spent some time with our designers, designing decorations for some event. My favorite part has been working with the designers - such a fun job that they have!

Here are a few things that I designed:

8-candle wreaths for a corporate event

Kissing ball made of walnuts
Here it is all done...I filled the holes with moss

Walnut Christmas tree

Now I just need to fill the holes with moss

All done. I love the way it turned out. It took forever and the only thing I hate is that I didn't get to bring it home and put it in my house!

...but I did get to see it at the event that I was in charge of setting up. I think the head dinner table turned out beautiful!

So....so far the new job is going great! I'm officially back over in sales this week and starting to work on some events coming up soon. Unfortunately, though, I no longer have all the time in the world to blog at work so, it looks like all my posts will have to be written from the comfort of my couch at night-that is until I get all settled in to office!

Be back soon!

Christmas Photo Outtakes

Here are a few outtakes from our Christmas photo shoot with M's mom. We took a few pictures inside our house and then made our way to a school in our neighborhood. Little did I know though as we ventured outside that afternoon, that the temperature had dropped down to the 40's and it was super windy. So here are a few pics of our adventure with Syd and the crazy weather!

Hair is blowing, Syd saw something and is ready to take off and M looks like he is about to sing and dance in a musical!

Our dog walks us..we do not walk her!

Merry Christmas - Love, The Holmes

My Green Pantry Door

Yup, you read it right. I painted me pantry door green and I couldn't be anymore in love with the way it turned out!

You see, I saw this image via pinterest and fell in love with the idea...

...so I decided to replicate it in my own kitchen. And this is how it turned out!

Coat #1 - Kind of scary looking! The green is so shiny and bold!

Coat #2. Looking better!

Step #3: Time to glaze it!

...and were all done! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it turned out and it is all thanks to my amazing cousin over at the Swoff House. I have never painted wood before so when I decided I wanted to take on this project she was the first person that I called! Didn't she do great?!?!?!

...and here is how it looks with my kitchen!

Everytime I see that green door it makes me smile!

Wine of the Month - Natura Carmenere

This past Friday night the hubs and I decided to have a relaxing night in with some wine and homemade meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Yes, I said meatloaf. I know it's not the most exciting of meals but it sure was yummy! Before we sat down to eat and watch a movie we ran to our local Sprouts to pick up a couple things and the most important item of all: WINE! We ended up grabbing a bottle of Natura Carmenere to sip on throughout the night and boy was it delicious. The wine is from Argentina and it's made with orgnically grown grapes. Here is what the experts have to say about it:

Retail: $9

Attractive aroma with hints of chocolate, black fruits, toffee and spices. Big volume on the palate with soft round tannins with a firm, well balanced structure. Good balance between fruit and oak with a long, sweet finish." ~Winery Notes

I've also read that is pairs well with curry. The hubs and I will definitely have to try this concoction since we are both huge lovers of Indian food and now this wine!
